Facts about Racism:
The United Kingdom has had problems with racism since before the Medieval Era. Though many people wouldn't see the UK having any racist problems that far back in history. There were many battles between different groups (tribes) of Englishmen, Scotsman, Welshmen and Irishmen because the different groups didn't like each or had different beliefs/views. There were even battles and fights between England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales for the same reasons and when people came from different countries into the UK (e.g. Romans) we fought them because we didn't like their way of life or beliefs and we didn't want to be part of them. Racism did quieten down after the second World War as people thought that having a war against an extreme racist and being racist themselves was a little bit ironic so they started to change their ways. However now racism is beginning to rise again and is becoming a big issue. There is a lot a racism tension to do with immigration as people feel that there are too many coming into the UK this is where most of the racism issues the UK faces starts as people need to change their view as most of the people that they are racist too are actually born in the UK making them British, yes they may have different views and beliefs to others but that is not an excuse for racism. Racism has been a long problem in the history of the United Kingdom and we understand it may not ever entirely go away but we can at least try to lower the number of racism cases being filed over the UK and lead by example to the rest of the world that racism is wrong and should be dealt with!
- It normally starts or consists of discrimination and hate.
- A recent survey found out that 44% of those asked believed immigration has caused at least 67% of today's racism.
- Racism in the workplace is a major problem: With one in three of people with Asian or Black ethnicity saying that they believe that racism has cost them the chance of a job.
- 22% of racist parents said that they'd disown their child if they married out of their race.
