What do 'show racism the red crad' do?
They believe that children look up to footballers and see them as role models for them, therefore if they're racist during football matches children think it's right and start being racist to friends, other people and even family. For this reason they believe that by tackling racism in football and generally in sport that people and especially children will gradually start to become less racist.
They help to do this by interacting with the footballers, other sports members and now even actors. They however mostly visit schools over England, Scotland and Wales to help try and spread the message about racism in sport, for a day of activities surrounding the issues of racism and also getting you to voice your opinions and feelings about this very serious matter. They now also do workshops in different areas all over England, Scotland and Wales their aims with this to educate young people about the causes and consequences of racism and to show them the various forms that racism can take. They also tell young people that they can make and change and that it doesn't have to be a big change it might just be a little change like within their communites or clubs. Most of all they teach young people about building healthy and good relationships with other ethnic groups and cultures also to respect peoples differences and not to treat them any differently.

how does racism affect footballers and athletes?
Racism in sport is when athletes insult each other verbally with racist remarks it can also be physical attacks on other athletes sometimes completely by accident other times however it is on purpose and sometimes it is because of racism and because they are different this is the problem that 'Show Racism The Red Card' are trying to stop. Show Racism the Red Card is an anti-racism charity, which was established in January 1996. The aim of the organisation is to produce anti racist educational resources, which raise the awareness of racism in sport and especially in football. Show Racism the Red Card feel that racism mostly occurs in football as football players insult each other or even sometimes abuse one another if they feel cheated out of a goal or game, it's also the same in any other sport and with any other athletes if they feel angry with the results which they have been given, sometimes the athletes claim that the referee/umpire/judge etc have been unfair and sometimes they believe this is because of the racial differences between the referee/umpire/judge and the athlete/athletes playing the sport. Show Racism the Red Card also think that sometimes race clouds peoples judement to make the right decision and to be fair, this is why the members and founders of Show Racism the Red Card want to try and get racism to stop.
Racism in women's football
Racism is not only between men ,like many people believe, it also occurs in women's football. Women's football has only been allowed in leagues for around six years, before then women's football was not noticed in many countries and many women weren't even allowed to play football. Most of the abuse women got was sexist, men thought that women shouldn't be allowed to play in leagues as it was a mans sport and men thought it was a disgrace that they were playing it. After all these sexist comments and remarks calmed down, thats when the racial comments and remarks started. Mostly the racism occured between women in the team. As they wouldn't allow different race/colour women to join their teams also before the women became less racist when they played other teams of women who were a different race/colour to them, issues usually occured and most of the time due to these racial/colour differences and quite often the referee was considered biased and unfair. Show Racism the Red Card is not just trying to stop racism in men's football and sport but they're also trying to stop racism in women's football and sport too. To make all athletes see eye-to-eye with each other and see that they are all equal and by doing this young people should hopefully become less racist and see that racism is wrong and is not the right answer to anything.
